Turkish Airlines has agreed to compensate Sri Lankan javelin champion Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage for damage caused to his sports equipment during his return to Sri Lanka.
Tharanga discovered that his equipment had been damaged upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport on 15 September.
At a meeting with aviation authorities, Turkish Airlines representatives expressed regret over the damage and agreed to conduct an internal investigation.
The airline will assess the extent of the damage and take immediate steps to compensate the athlete, according to the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation.
