- Taking Sri Lanka’s scents onto the world stage
Sri Lanka’s perfume landscape has reached a significant milestone with the rise of Elvoir, a fragrance brand making its name both locally and globally. In a historic first, Elvoir is the country’s first and only certified perfumer-led fragrance brand, signalling a new era of locally crafted luxury that meets international standards.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on 5 March at the Elvoir fragrance house, where the brand showcased its vision for Sri Lanka’s luxury industry and its ambitions for international recognition.
Starting amid a crisis
Elvoir was founded during a period of economic crisis when import bans disrupted access to luxury fragrance ingredients. Qaaim Deen realised that Sri Lanka had high-quality local materials such as cinnamon and cloves, which could be used to create luxury perfumes. He worked to fill the gap in the market by sourcing these ingredients locally and combining them with premium international oils.
“When imports stopped, I saw an opportunity,” he said. “Sri Lanka has some of the finest raw materials and I wanted to prove that we could craft luxury fragrances entirely from what we have here.”
“It was challenging at first, but using local ingredients like cinnamon and cloves gave our perfumes a unique identity,” he said. “It showed that premium quality doesn’t have to come from abroad.”
A vision for Sri Lankan luxury
Founded by certified perfumer Qaaim Deen, Elvoir was created to prove that Sri Lanka is capable of manufacturing and exporting luxury perfumes of the highest caliber. The brand merges French fragrance oils with carefully selected local ingredients, all manufactured under strict quality controls.
“This goes beyond simply launching fragrances,” Deen said. “The goal is to demonstrate that Sri Lanka can build and sustain a premium fragrance industry based on artistry, discipline, and certification.”
“I’ve always prioritised quality over quantity and worked to create an environment where local craftsmanship can coexist peacefully with global standards,” Deen said. “We can proudly showcase Elvoir to the world as a long-term vision of Sri Lankan luxury.”
Elvoir sources premium French oils while incorporating local raw materials, ensuring that each fragrance meets both international standards and Sri Lankan authenticity. The brand adheres to IFRA, ISO, and GMP protocols, ensuring safety, consistency, and excellence at every stage.
Crafting experiences beyond fragrance
Elvoir caters to discerning Sri Lankans who value refined luxury, elegant presentation, and meaningful craftsmanship. Each fragrance is treated as an artistic creation designed to evoke memory, emotion, and identity rather than merely serving as a cosmetic product.
“Our Valentine’s Day releases sold out quickly, and so did our exclusive collaborations,” Deen said. “We’ve seen that people want something that tells a story”
The brand also serves corporate and institutional clients, offering bespoke fragrance solutions for events, product launches and long-term collaborations. Wedding clients seek custom fragrances for favours, while event planners and agencies partner with Elvoir to design experiential gifting concepts.
“Creating fragrances for businesses and special events allows us to bring a touch of luxury and personalisation to every experience,” he said.
Redefining local luxury
Elvoir challenges the perception that premium fragrances in Sri Lanka must be imported. By demonstrating the competitiveness of certified local craftsmanship on a global scale, the brand is redefining what it means to produce luxury at home.
“We wanted to show that Sri Lanka can compete internationally,” Deen said. “Our perfumes, candles, and diffusers are proof that local products can meet global standards.”
Its portfolio now includes scented candles, Scentiq smart diffusers and Elvoir jewellery, with plans to enter body care and personal care essentials.
Looking ahead
While Elvoir is thankful for its success in the past, it constantly looks forward to the future, including success in the international arena.
“Fragrance is an expression of artistry and identity,” Deen said. “We want Sri Lankans to see it as more than a product. It’s a statement about who we are as a nation capable of crafting world-class luxury.”
By blending craftsmanship, certification, and creativity, Elvoir is reshaping perceptions of local luxury and proving that a homegrown, certified perfumer-led brand can compete internationally.
“Every fragrance we create is special,” Deen said. “It’s about building a sustainable industry and giving Sri Lanka a presence in the global fragrance map.”
Through disciplined execution, creative innovation, and commitment to excellence, Elvoir is establishing Sri Lanka as a nation capable of producing world-class luxury fragrances while nurturing a sustainable, certified fragrance industry at home.
