The 2026 National Housing Programme officially launched today in Meesalai, Chavakachcheri, Jaffna, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presiding over the ceremony.

Under the theme “A Place of Our Own, A Beautiful Life,” the initiative aims to build a total of 31,218 houses nationwide, providing better living conditions for Sri Lankan families.

During the event, 2,500 families from the Northern and Eastern Provinces areas heavily affected by the war and still lacking proper housing will be given new homes as part of this historic effort.
