The Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, D.J. Rajakaruna, stated that there is no need to implement the QR-based fuel distribution system at present as adequate fuel stocks are available.

He noted that the QR system should only be introduced in the event of a shortage and that authorities are prepared to activate it if required.

Fuel distribution continued as usual today (02), with over 2.9 million litres each of diesel and Octane 92 petrol released by 9.45 a.m., while more than 3 million litres of diesel and nearly 4 million litres of Octane 92 petrol were issued yesterday (01).

Rajakaruna emphasized that continuous distribution is being maintained and urged the public not to panic.

He warned that storing fuel without a valid licence is illegal and dangerous, adding that several arrests were made yesterday in connection with illegal hoarding.
