The Department of Irrigation has opened two additional spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir by one foot each, following an increase in water inflow.

This brings the total number of spill gates opened by one foot to eight. The reservoir is currently releasing 5,500 cubic feet of water per second into the Deduru Oya.

The Department stated that the gate openings may be adjusted depending on rainfall and water inflow.

Residents living in downstream areas have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, two spill gates at the Victoria Reservoir have reportedly opened automatically following heavy rainfall.
