Jathika Jana balawegaya (JJB) MP Vijitha Herath today said the government has failed to provide relief to the estate workers and the families of the disappeared through the Appropriation Bill 2020.
Speaking during the debate of the bill in Parliament, the MP said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa assured that estate sector workers would receive a daily wage of Rs.1,000 from March this year.
“We are in November now. There is no mention of daily wage of estate workers in the budget. The Prime Minister has broken the promise he made in Parliament earlier,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said allocations were earlier made to provide an allowance of Rs.6,000 to the families of the disappeared but this has also been neglected by the government.
