Budget 2021: 1,000MW to be added to national grid from solar power

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said 1,000 MW would be added to the national grid from solar power during 2021 and 2023. He said 300MW had already been added to the national grid. He proposed to generate 500MW by providing solar panels to 100,000 low-income families. Meanwhile, 10,000 transformers to be added to the solar power plants. The offshore wind power plants and floating solar power plants to increase renewable power generation to 1,000MW. All renewable energy investments exempted from taxes for seven years.
