Over 175,000 frontline workers vaccinated; high risk areas identified for vaccination drive

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva today stated that 175,694 frontline workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far. In addition to that, a total of 100,262 persons in high risk areas in the Western Province were also vaccinated. Among them, 22,515 were from the Colombo district, 2,594 from the Colombo Municipal Council area, 59,350 from Gampaha district and 5,782 from Kalutara district. He said that high risk areas were taken into account when administering the vaccination drive. General Silva stated that Kolonnawa, Gothatuwa, Moratuwa, Egodauyana, Hanwella and Pitakotte were considered as high risk areas in Colombo district due to more patients being reported from these areas. He also identified Atthanagalle, Biyagama, Divulapitiya, Dompe, Gampaha, Ja Ela, Katana, Kelaniya Mahara, Mirigama, Minuwangoda, Negombo, Ragama, Seeduwa, Wattala as the high risk areas in Gampaha district. The Manning Market and Peliyagoda fish market are also to be given priority in the vaccination drive. In Kalutara district, Agalawatta, Bandaragama, Mathugama, Panadura, Horana, Beruwala and Kalutara were identified as high risk areas.
