Ravi Jayawickrem[/caption]   Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, who visited Sri Lanka recently, has shown keen interest in developing the regional distribution of fertiliser via the Hambantota International Port.  Melnichenko, who met PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, visited the Hambantota International Port (HIP) during his visit to Sri Lanka last week “This is well in line with the port’s plans as the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) was already investigating possibilities in this regard,” said HIP Group Commercial and Marketing General Manager Lance Zuo. HIPG, which has entered into a business venture partnership with a reputed fertiliser-bagging operator, is now gearing up to launch fertiliser transshipment operations, which is another step closer to the Port’s vision of becoming a regional transshipment hub for fertiliser and bulk business.
