Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health made a special statement today (19) saying that the allegations made towards the Ministry of Health by MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe are false, and asked Rajapakshe to address these issues after thinking like a professional as well as a politician. “We want to mention to Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa that he should think as a politician as well as a professional. He is making a futile attempt to create problems within our party as well as within the country, and to create problems internationally and to divide our country from the very powerful rich states that have been helping our country for decades. As a professional, think about whether this is the right thing to do. It is very wrong to try to create such a crisis because of personal grievances,” she said. She stated that Sri Lanka has been successful in the fight against the global pandemic due to the efforts of the Ministry and the health and security sectors. "The Ministry of Health, the Presidential Task Force on COVID Prevention and the Government have worked very hard and today we are successfully carrying out the fight against Covid-19. Many countries are facing a COVID third wave while our neighbouring country India reports over 200,000 patients daily. The Covid virus is spreading rapidly in every country, including the United States, England, France, Italy, and Germany. The death toll is rising. Due to our hard work we have been able to reduce the number of Covid patients and deaths in Sri Lanka today. It is a very false accusation to say that we do not act as we do. We remember the Opposition accusing us in the same way that our vaccination program on Covid-19 was a failure,” she said. She also commented that Basil Rajapaksa, who created a party to bring a two-thirds majority to power, is being slandered to weaken the government and its members.
