State Minister of Batik, Handloom and Local Apparel Products Dayasiri Jayasekara has requested Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana to establish a Select Committee to address international allegations and challenges posed to Sri Lanka, instigated especially by certain organisations outside the country with vested interests.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Dayasiri notes that this matter is one of concern which most would consider a challenge to the country, unless high priority is attached to strategies to deal with them.
The following concerns were posed to the Speaker:
- Resolutions or Bills that have been passed, backed by international support prove to be a major security burden in the long run
- Fabricated adverse propaganda could prove to be a major security hurdle in the longer term, especially if backed by international support
- The frequency of lobbying at international platforms and in the event of growing influence of extremism, which may prove to be difficult to manage.
