Opposition MP Namal Rajapaksa has requested Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to convene a meeting of parties that support democracy over the government's reported move to extend the retirement age of Supreme Court judges.

In a letter, Rajapaksa stated that the proposed move could undermine the rule of law and democratic processes.

He also noted that the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific, and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association have already expressed concern over the proposal.
