Following suggestions made by the government to reduce the number of days in a working week to 4 days, Government Nursing Officers Association (GNOA) Chairman Saman Rathnapriya questioned if it was possible for the health sector to follow such suggestions.
He made this statement during a media brief yesterday (27).
"Due to the lack of fuel and the funds to import fuel, the government has suggested that the work week be reduced to just 4 working days. Some places employees work for 5 days, some places employees work for 6 or even 7 days. Is this possible with the health sector? If that is possible, the health workers can send patients home for a 3 day holiday. Who comes up with such suggestions? It is the leaders of this country," Rathnapriya stated.
He further added that the government has proved to be inconsistent with a proper solution to the ongoing crisis.
