Transport Ministry to launch spl prog. to provide diesel to same
BY Buddhika SamaraweeraThe Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and the National Transport Commission (NTC) have planned to launch special bus services from 8 to 19 April, in view of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, while the Transport Ministry has planned a special programme to issue diesel for those buses.Speaking to The Morning yesterday (31 March), Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services and Train Compartments, and Motor Car Industry State Ministry Secretary S.M.D.L.K. De Alwis said: “A special bus service has been planned for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year from 8 to 19 April. It has been decided to deploy SLTB buses covering all provinces from the Colombo Central Bus Stand.”He further stated that the NTC has also announced plans to launch a special private bus service during a discussion chaired by Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama yesterday.Speaking further, De Alwis said that Amunugama had, during the said discussion, paid special attention to the supply of fuel to these buses. Accordingly, he said that it was decided to install a fuel tank for private buses near the Bastian Mawatha main bus stand and to issue diesel from there. In addition, he said that a fuel tank will be installed at the Colombo Fort Railway yard to supply fuel for private buses.According to him, Amunugama was scheduled to meet Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Sumith Wijesinghe yesterday evening to discuss the matter of obtaining the relevant fuel.
