The Government has assured swift restoration of more than 1,000 religious, cultural and archaeological sites damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, following a high-level discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat.
Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi said restoration work will begin promptly, preserving the historical and cultural authenticity of each site under the guidance of religious leaders.
An interfaith committee will oversee the restoration process, with monthly progress reviews and transparent management of local and foreign donor funds.
Eight severely damaged heritage sites identified by the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) will require specialized expertise, with restoration costs estimated at over Rs. 500 million.
