The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has denied allegations against its National Organiser, MP Namal Rajapaksa, who was arrested and remanded over the controversial Airbus deal.

SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam stated that the allegations were baseless and politically motivated.

He also accused attempts to use independent state institutions for political purposes and questioned the timing of the arrest ahead of the party’s planned public rally in Anuradhapura.

The SLPP stated that the rally scheduled for 12 September will go ahead as planned, despite Namal Rajapaksa being remanded.
