Health officials have reported a rise in asthma cases in Sri Lanka, with concerns growing ahead of World Asthma Day on 6 May.
Consultant Respiratory Physician Dr. Asha Samaranayake noted that 3,340 out of every 100,000 people globally suffer from asthma, particularly among young individuals.
She emphasised that inhaler-based treatments can manage the condition effectively without side effects.
Dr. Samanmalie Dalpathadu added that many asthma patients in Sri Lanka remain undiagnosed despite the disease’s prevalence.
Authorities urge increased awareness and early diagnosis to improve asthma management nationwide.
