The Registrar of the Minuwangoda District Court has been remanded in custody until 6 October following an order by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The Registrar was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged attempt to aid and abet the offering of a Rs. 50,000 bribe to a Colombo High Court staff member.

The alleged bribe was intended to obtain a favourable verdict in a case involving former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena.

CIABOC informed court that investigations are ongoing, while the suspect’s defence counsel submitted that his client had not received any money in connection with the incident.
