The Government has announced plans to renovate the Colombo Central Bus Stand within the next year as part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, the President’s Media Division (PMD) confirmed.
The upgrade will include improvements to facilities such as the canteen, ticket counters, rest areas, and driver quarters. Established in 1964, the 1.42-hectare bus stand currently services up to 2,000 buses daily.
Renovations at 50 other major bus stands across the country will also be carried out, with operational support from the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The initiative was discussed at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat, attended by Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Defence Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha, and senior Government and military officials.
