Transport facilities will continue today (13) for passengers travelling to their hometowns for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, according to the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre.
Assistant Manager D N Weththasinghe stated that buses will be operated based on passenger demand, noting a drop in traveller numbers compared to previous days.
He added that a fleet of buses has also been prepared for tomorrow (14) for those travelling via the Southern Expressway to visit relatives and exchange New Year greetings.
Officials emphasised that buses will only be dispatched if there is a sufficient number of passengers, highlighting that operating nearly empty buses amid the current fuel situation would be a waste of resources.
Arrangements have been made to ensure services continue tomorrow as well, with an expected increase in passenger numbers for festive travel.
