Sri Lanka manufacturing growth slows in August

Sri Lanka’s manufacturing sector continued to expand in August, but growth slowed, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI).


The Manufacturing PMI fell to 53.0 in August from 55.0 in July. The New Orders index dropped to 50.0, while the Production index fell below the neutral level to 48.4.


Employment and purchasing activity increased during the month, while suppliers’ delivery times continued to lengthen amid supply disruptions.


Meanwhile, the Services PMI rose to 65.6 from 61.4, supported by stronger activity in transport, wholesale and retail trade, and professional services.
