Sunny Side Up: Thondaman blames President

07 May 2022

Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) General Secretary MP Jeevan Thondaman has claimed that the 15-year relationship between the Thondamans and the Rajapaksas has now come to an end. He had blamed the soured relationship on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, saying that the CWC had severed ties with the Rajapaksas and that a new era had now commenced. Addressing the CWC’s May Day rally in Kotagala, Thondaman had said: “We placed immense faith in the President and Prime Minister. How can we support the Government when that faith has been completely destroyed? You can forgive a mistake once, but if it’s being done continuously, how can anyone forgive? Some people are today criticising us saying we worked to bring this Government to power. There’s no point in blaming each other, we have to all work together to address the issues faced by the estate sector community.”
