IMF talks to focus on dual review approval

25 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, P Nandalal Weerasinghe, says upcoming discussions with the International Monetary Fund will focus on adapting to the changing global environment and exploring the possibility of completing two programme reviews together.

He noted that the IMF mission aims to reach a staff-level agreement covering two tranches, but emphasized that evolving economic conditions will require careful reassessment of policies and targets.

The Governor added that previous IMF reviews have also been adjusted to reflect new developments, and the upcoming round is expected to involve more significant changes due to external shocks linked to the Middle East conflict.
