Chief Government Whip Minister Prasanna Ranatunga is often seen clashing with the main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and its Leader in the House. However, Ranatunga had last week commended the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa for his service to the housing industry by building houses for those without houses.
The Minister had made this comment during an event held to mark World Habitat Day at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
After the event, State Minister Thenuka Vidanagamage had approached Ranatunga and said: “You always criticise the son, Sajith Premadasa, in Parliament, but you just praised his father, the late President.”
Ranatunga had smiled and responded saying that the late President Premadasa had done a great service to the people through this housing programme. “Anyway, the son is not like the father (‘Puthano is not like Piyano’),” Ranatunga had said, making those around him laugh.
