Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, in his message for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, highlighted the festival as a shared national celebration rooted in spiritual, cultural, and moral traditions that must be safeguarded for future generations.
He noted that any government action creating uncertainty or failing to responsibly handle sensitive matters amounts to neglect, expressing concern over recent interventions related to the New Year auspicious timetable (Nakath Pathraya).
Premadasa also emphasised that the New Year represents an opportunity to reflect on past challenges and move forward, especially as people continue to face economic hardships impacting their well-being.
He called for meaningful empowerment through sustainable, long-term solutions, reaffirming his commitment to working towards such initiatives in the year ahead.
