Organised crime suspect Piyum Hasthika alias ‘Piyuma’, who was in hiding within Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was repatriated to Sri Lanka in the early hours of yesterday (15).
A special team of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had brought ‘Piyuma’ back to the island, the Ministry of Public Security stated. He is reportedly the main accomplice of the organised crime suspect Salindu Malshika alias ‘Kudu Salindu’, who is also currently in custody of the CID.
A team of officers from the CID had left for Madagascar on 11 March of last year (2023) to repatriate organised crime suspect Nadun Chinthaka alias ‘Harak Kata’ and his accomplice organised crime suspect Salindu Malshitha Gunaratne, alias ‘Kudu Salindu’, who were arrested while on a visit to the island off the South-Eastern coast of Africa. CID officers later returned to Sri Lanka with the duo on 15 March, and obtained an order under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act to detain the duo for 90 days.
