President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya as Sri Lanka’s 37th Inspector General of Police (IGP), with Constitutional Council approval. 

He is the first IGP to have risen through all three key ranks Police Constable, DSP, and ASP before assuming the post.
