Forty-nine prisoners will receive special presidential pardons today(04) to mark the 78th Independence Day.

The Department of Prisons stated the pardons will be granted under Article 34 of the Constitution.

Prisoners will receive a one-week remission for each year served.

Sentences of inmates jailed for unpaid fines below Rs. 75,000 will be fully commuted.
