The Election Commission (EC) has directed all 2023 Local Government election candidates to submit their campaign income and expenditure reports by May 28, under the Election Expenditure Regulation Act. 

While the move aims to boost transparency, IRES Executive Director Manjula Gajanayake raised concerns over the lack of penalties for non-compliance, calling for stronger enforcement mechanisms.
