The main Opposition, the SJB is convening discussions on taking legal action over the summoning of Parliamentarian Prasad Siriwardana to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). 

Speaking to The Daily Morning, SJB General Secretary and MP Rajith Madduma Bandara said that the Party views the Government's decision as a betrayal of democratic politics, claiming the Government has engaged in a series of actions of harassment and therefore, they will be holding discussions to take necessary legal actions against the Government's action. Madduma Bandara further claimed that an MP has never been summoned to the CID regarding a statement before.

Consequently, speaking to The Daily Morning, SJB and Opposition Leader, Sajith Premadasa said that he suspects that the summoning may have ulterior motives beyond the particular statement.

The concerns arose as Siriwardana was summoned to the CID on Monday (12) for questioning a statement he made on a private television channel criticising the shortcomings of the education reforms introduced by the National People’s Power Government.
