The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) is revising SIM card registration rules following an increase in illegal activities involving SIM cards obtained through informal methods.

TRCSL Director General Bandula Herath stated that new SIM buyers will be required to undergo enhanced identification, including a live photograph, once the new rules take effect, likely by the end of this year.

TRCSL aims to achieve 100% identification of mobile phone and SIM card users by 2027.
