Two generators at the Uma Oya Hydropower Complex, which was inaugurated on Wednesday (24), have been named after two female labourers as a mark of recognition of their service during the construction of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project (UOMDP).
Accordingly, the two generators have been named ‘Dasuni’ and ‘Chulochana,’ the latter being the Iranian pronunciation of the name Sulochana.
The two female labourers have reportedly been honoured for their service of providing beverages and other work support for engineers and workers involved in construction work.
The two turbines, installed at the Uma Oya Hydropower Complex in the Ella-Karandagolla area and named after the two women, are to release 120 megawatts to the national grid.
The UOMDP was jointly inaugurated by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi.
