CBSL engages with bankers on dollar increase

A discussion focused on addressing measures that can be taken in the face of the pressure on the Sri Lankan rupee was hosted between the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe, bankers and currency dealers from commercial banks, on Thursday (21), a statement by the CBSL said.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the highest dollar rates recorded in 3 years was recorded on Thursday, with the buying price recorded at Rs 342.63 and the selling price recorded at Rs 354.03.

The exchange rate pressure currently affecting the local rupee due to the increase in dollar demand in the market, the decrease in dollar liquidity, and importers increasing dollar orders for future imports, has been addressed in the discussion.
