China and Sri Lanka have signed an agreement to reconstruct 14 major bridges destroyed by Cyclone Ditwah under a Chinese-funded project.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development in Colombo in the presence of Chinese Ambassador Wei Huaxiang and Ministry Secretary Asiri Karunawardana.

The Chinese Ambassador stated that China expedited approval of the project following a request from the Sri Lankan Government and sent a team of experts to assess the damage.

The Ministry Secretary stated that the project will help address transportation difficulties caused by the disaster and support the development of Sri Lanka’s transport infrastructure.
