Sri Lanka's Hiruni Wijayaratne won the silver medal in the "Eugene Women's Marathon" held in Eugene, USA.
Wijayaratne recorded a time of 2:40:06 hours at Eugene to secure the silver medal. The first place was secured by Sarah Lopez who finished the event in 2:33:48 hours. 848 contestants participated in this event.
Last month, Hiruni participated in the "Credit Union Sacktown" marathon event where she set a new Sri Lankan record in the 10 mile event and won the silver medal. Hiruni, who trains in America, is the current South Asian marathon champion and is also the Sri Lankan record holder.
Hiruni is a Sri Lankan-American track and field athlete, specialising in long distance running events. She is considered the most decorated Sri Lankan distance athlete, as she holds 11 Sri Lankan national records for road and track events as of 2022, including the women's 10,000 m and marathon.
