Sri Lanka’s Department of Import and Export Control reported a revenue of Rs. 3.7 billion in 2024, marking a 13% increase from 2023. The income was generated through 17,010 licenses issued for various imports and exports.
Mobile phones and communication equipment accounted for the highest number of licenses. There was also a significant rise in licenses for chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and industrial raw materials.
Between June and December, 300,000 metric tons of maize and 15,000 metric tons of shelled cashew nuts were approved for import, both higher than the previous year. Additionally, 687 tea leaf import licenses were granted, reflecting an upward trend.
