The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of 33 separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian High Commission to implement development projects in the Eastern Province under the Indian Multi-Sectoral Grants.

The move follows an MoU signed between the Governments of India and Sri Lanka on 5 April 2025, under which India has agreed to provide a grant of Rs. 2,371.83 million to support 33 projects identified as meeting the development needs of the province.

According to the agreement, each project will be implemented under a dedicated MoU between the Indian High Commission and the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.

The proposal to finalise these MoUs was presented to Cabinet by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.
