Govt. ready for Starlink

02 Jun 2025

Sri Lanka has completed all necessary processes to operationalise the launch of satellite internet service provider, Starlink, once dashboards from the company are received, a statement published by the Ministry of Digital Economy has said on its official Meta page on Saturday (31).

“Deputy Minister Weeraratne confirmed that the Government has completed all necessary processes for the operational launch of Starlink. Once the requested dashboards are received from Starlink, operations can commence without delay,” the statement said.

The statement said that Digital Economy Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne made these comments in Singapore during a high-level meeting between him and US Department of State Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy Ambassador Steve Lang.

This development comes days after Sri Lankan Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa told media that the internet service provider’s launch in the island nation was delayed due to technical issues in the government’s agreement with the company.

He reasoned that since the relevant issues were not resolved by April, the project had been stalled. Sri Lanka had approved the entrance of the internet service provider back in August 2024, through authorisation mandated through its telecommunications regulatory commission (TRCSL).
