The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ alert warning of severe lightning activity affecting parts of Sri Lanka. The advisory, issued at noon today (12), will remain in effect until 11:00 p.m.

According to the department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected to occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts, after 2:00 p.m. 

There is also a possibility of temporary localized strong winds during these thunderstorms.

The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimize the risk of damage and ensure safety during this period of heightened lightning activity.
