The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Property Act is scheduled to be heard again today (28) at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The charges stem from allegations that Wickremesinghe misused government funds to travel to London for a ceremony honoring his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, at a British university while serving as Head of State.
Wickremesinghe was arrested on August 22, 2025, after voluntarily appearing before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement.
He was then produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court and remanded until August 26.
Following the review of medical reports submitted on his behalf, Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered his release on three surety bails of Rs. 5 million each. The case proceedings have now been rescheduled.
