A 37-year-old suspect was arrested in Kandy yesterday (22) for allegedly running a major racket involving e-tickets for up-country trains, including those to Ella.
According to reports, the arrest uncovered 21 Odyssey train tickets, Rs. 130,670 in cash, 130 notepads of transaction records, and a mobile phone.
The Police believe that the suspect profited by reselling tickets at inflated prices, targeting foreign tourists.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) taken over the case for further inquiries, linking it to a broader investigation into e-tickets being sold out within seconds online and resold at exorbitant prices, sparking concerns over fraudulent practices.
