The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued a severe lightning alert for parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, Galle, and Matara districts. 

The Department of Meteorology warns of thundershowers with severe lightning and possible strong winds. 

Residents should seek shelter indoors, avoid trees and open areas, and stay away from electrical appliances and open vehicles. 

Exercise caution around fallen trees and power lines.
