The newly appointed Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu (TN) Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay has thanked President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for his wishes extended following the Assembly Election victory.
In a post on the social media platform X, Vijay said that he is deeply honoured by the wishes from President Dissanayake. “Thank you for your gracious gesture,” the message further read.
On 10 May, President Dissanayake extended his congratulations to Vijay following his swearing-in as the CM, highlighting the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and TN. President Dissanayake emphasised that the two regions are closely connected through shared heritage, enterprise, and long-standing relationships across generations. He further noted that both sides stand to benefit from expanding economic cooperation as Sri Lanka and India continue to strengthen bilateral relations. The message also expressed confidence in future collaboration, stating that closer engagement within the India–Sri Lanka partnership would help advance mutual prosperity and development.
Meanwhile, the Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Southern India, Dr Ganesanathan Geathiswaran attended the swearing-in ceremony of Vijay as the CM on 10 May, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. On behalf of the people of Sri Lanka, warm felicitations were extended to Vijay on his assumption of office. Best wishes were conveyed for a successful and productive tenure, as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the State of TN. He also expressed keen interest in further strengthening cooperation and enhancing people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and TN, within the broader framework of the longstanding and friendly relations between Sri Lanka and India.
