• Cites reports of Buddhist Commission, Udarata Rural Rehabilitation Commission

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that reports submitted by the Buddhist Commission and the Udarata Rural Rehabilitation Commission have presented the damage done to Sri Lanka by the imperialists and that therefore, it is the Government’s responsibility to take action in that regard.

Speaking during the occasion of Prof. C.M. Madduma Bandara presenting a copy of his research volume titled Freedom struggles of Sri Lanka: Lessons learned and the way forward to him at the Premier’s office in Colombo on Tuesday (31 January), he noted that it is the responsibility of the Government to take action in this regard.

This book was completed on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the rebellion against British colonial rule in Uva Wellassa in 1818, and shows how Sri Lanka, which had been an independent Government for over 2,000 years, had lost its Independence due to oppression by the imperialists. This book makes an argument for compensation to be paid for the crimes committed against humanity during that period.
