The government plans to extend the Central Expressway to Gannoruwa, Minister of Transport Bimal Rathnayake has stated in Parliament.

He also noted that several road development projects have been planned to improve Kandy's road network.

The Minister stated that reconstruction of the Colombo–Kandy Upcountry railway line is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 or during the first two months of 2027.

He added that the Wattegama–Matale section may take an additional six months due to the complexity of the work.
