Three spill gates of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir have been opened since yesterday afternoon (26) following heavy rainfall in the reservoir’s catchment areas, reservoir engineers said.

The engineers have urged residents living along both banks of the Kotmale Oya downstream of the reservoir dam to remain vigilant, warning that the remaining spill gates will open automatically if further rainfall is recorded in the catchment areas.
