The state funeral of veteran actress Malini Fonseka, widely regarded as the “Queen of Sri Lankan Cinema,” will be held on Monday (26) evening at Independence Square, the President’s Media Division (PMD) announced.
A high-level discussion regarding the funeral arrangements was held on 24 May at the Presidential Secretariat under the leadership of Minister H. M. Sunil Senevi and Presidential Secretary Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
Her remains will be placed at the Tharangani Hall of the National Film Corporation on 25 May and later at Independence Square on the day of the funeral for public viewing. Officials discussed logistical preparations to facilitate the large number of mourners expected to attend.
Senior Government officials, family members, artistes, and other dignitaries participated in the planning meeting to ensure the national farewell honours the legacy of Malini Fonseka.
