Remembering Dulcy de Silva

Mrs. Dulcy de Silva, beloved wife of the late Mr. Y.P. de Silva, loving mother of late Kanthi Perera, Kusum Shanthi George, Renuka Jayanthi Jayasuriya, Nihal Janaka de Silva; mother-in-law of Albert Perera, Benjamin Rajaratnam George, Bathiya Jayasuriya, and Renuka Senadheera; grandmother of Nilanga, Irosha, Suranga, Priyangi, Elizabeth Mathiyalagi, Steve, Ishan, Antoinette, Skandha, Himashika, Chamin and Maneesha, Thamari and Eranga, passed away peacefully last morning (26) at her residence.

Mrs. de Silva, a lifelong women's and civil activist and leftist politician, was the former Vice President of the World Federation of Trade Unions and the President of World Federation of Trade Unions - Asia Pacific. She was also the co-founder of the Mothers and Daughters of Sri Lanka organisation and a member of the National Peace movement, advocating for peace and reconciliation throughout her life and career.

Her husband, the late Mr. Y.P. de Silva, was a former President of the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party and the Deputy Minister of Internal and External Trade.

Mrs. de Silva’s remains will lie at Jayaratne Restpect, Borella, today (27) from 8.30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and tomorrow (28) from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cremation will take place at the General Cemetery, Kanatta, Borella at 4.30 p.m. tomorrow.
