406 new doctors to get internship by end June

 The Ministry of Health has taken measures to assign 406 new doctors who have completed their medical degree for internships.

 Accordingly, before 27 June, these doctors will be referred to 63 hospitals in the Island.  The training period of about 694 intern doctors currently working in hospitals is scheduled to end on 27 June and accordingly, these new doctors will be assigned to the respective hospitals.

Speaking to The Daily Morning yesterday (8), the Media Spokesman of the Health Ministry Indika Polkotuwa said that “406 new doctors who have completed their medical degree will be assigned to the internship. Currently, there are nearly 30,000 doctors in the health system of this country.”

Furthermore, he said that “the Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has given instructions to the officials of the Ministry to carry out the essential activities of the health services without any delay, regardless of the challenging situation in the country. Accordingly, recently 222 family health officers were recruited to the health field.”

Accordingly, Rambukwella has given instructions to the relevant officials to immediately focus on 3,316 new nurses for training for the nursing service. Apart from that, more than 2,000 nurses who have completed their training are to be appointed soon.
