A 29-year-old Tanzanian woman gave birth at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning after experiencing labour pains while in transit.

Arriving from Dubai on Fitz Air flight 8D-822 and awaiting her connecting flight to Kuala Lumpur, she was rushed to the Airport Medical Treatment Centre, where doctors and nurses safely delivered a baby boy.

Both mother and child were later transferred by ambulance to the Negombo General Hospital for further care.
